Coming from a family of vets, James started out with very little knowledge of the world of business. Although, he’d have been able to give you a pretty good diagnosis if your animal was unwell (horses in particular). He ended up doing a maths degree before moving into accountancy, and it’s fair to say he’s not your typical accountant(!). Still, he trained at PwC in the Midlands, ultimately working in Transaction Services, which led to him discovering the world of private equity.
Following his training, James moved to Catalyst Corporate Finance (now Alantra) before transitioning into PE, working for Risk Capital Partners and then Lonsdale Capital Partners. It was here that he completed around ten bolt-on transactions for the portfolio companies he supported. He loves working closely with management teams and helping them further enhance their already fantastic businesses, using M&A as an opportunity to supercharge growth and build something truly special.
James came to be at Tenzing after hearing the firm’s name come up time and time again within the world of PE. His interest was already piqued, but after some intro chats with Christian where he learnt more about how we do things, he knew it was a role to jump at. Everyone here is equally ambitious and hungry to succeed, which gelled well with James’ naturally competitive personality. And when Guy described Tenzing as being like the scene in Wallace and Gromit where they are laying on the track as the train is flying along, he knew he was sold!
