Portfolio

Rowena Murray

Row provides portfolio support at Tenzing, helping entrepreneurs scale their businesses, achieve their goals and execute value creation strategies. She previously sat in the Tenzing Investment Team and still occasionally lends her skills to this side of the business.

Row loves the variety that working at Tenzing brings. Every management team has a different backstory to tell, a different vision and a different path to tread. The nuances of adjacent markets can be starkly different, and no business or market ever stays still. To Row, this is all the fun of the fair – value creation is never a constant tempo on a linear trajectory. Without the challenge and engagement of the journey, and without continually striving higher, there would be no thrill (or relief!) in reaching the destination.

Row’s study and work life prior to Tenzing meandered through a somewhat unlikely combination of law, history of art, banking and garden design history. The journey started as a lawyer in Sydney, her hometown, and brought her to the UK in 2004. Immediately prior to joining Tenzing, Row was a Director at Investec Investment Bank, providing strategic advice to both public and private companies and leading corporate transactions across a variety of sectors, including business services and technology. She counts many of her past clients as close friends.

Row is on the Altum and EIKON boards, and was previously on the board of CitNOW Group.

Passions

  • Gardens, gardening and BBQs. This passion is all-weather, including the BBQ element. In addition to the ‘standard’ summer contraption in the garden, Row has a mains connected BBQ, together with a collection of golf umbrellas and waterproof coats which reek of BBQ’d meat and spices. Even Christmas Day turkey is cooked on the barbie.
  • Sport. The daughter of a PE teacher, Row spent her formative years playing any and every sport on offer (though not with the same level of skill as the rest of her family!). Ballet and gymnastics were discarded at a very early stage; competitive tennis, netball and hockey survived beyond university into working life. These days exercise is squeezed in to fit around the children and placate her Fitbit, although time is always very readily made to watch live sport of any variety. Football, cricket, tennis, F1 and rugby are particularly keenly followed, and the AFL fixtures in Australia tend to be the starting point for family holiday planning.
