Today, we are pleased to announce that our portfolio company, DJH, has acquired Thorne Widgery, one of the leading accountancy firms serving the Midlands and Welsh Borders. DJH supports owner-managed businesses and high-net worth individuals, who rely on them to achieve their ambitions through expert accountancy advice, challenging conversations and innovative technology.

With nearly 900 professionals across its office network in the North West, Midlands, Yorkshire, the South East, Wales and Ireland, DJH is a UK top 30 accountancy and professional services group with a strong regional footprint and growing international presence. The acquisition strengthens DJH’s presence across Herefordshire and Shropshire, adding three offices in Hereford, Ludlow and Shrewsbury, while expanding the group’s expertise in supporting owner-managed businesses and bringing innovative software capabilities for the academies sector.

Founded more than 80 years ago, Thorne Widgery has built a strong reputation for its technology-led approach and trusted advice to businesses across the region. The partnership further strengthens DJH’s presence in the Midlands and Welsh Borders while broadening the group’s specialist service offering.

Scott Heath, Chief Executive Officer of DJH, commented:

“Thorne Widgery has grown into the largest firm of accountants in Herefordshire and Shropshire, playing a critical role in supporting the vibrant business community in the region.

“They have built an award-winning practice – one with genuine depth of expertise, a team that truly cares, and a client base built on long-standing trust.”

He continued:

“What particularly excites us is the work its development team has completed in building software solutions for the academies sector. This is a real differentiator, and it opens up an exciting opportunity for us to explore how that capability could be extended into other sectors where DJH has strong expertise.

“It is the kind of forward-thinking innovation that sets a firm apart, and it is exactly what we want to bring into the group and build on across our existing specialisms.”

Daniel Crowther, Director at Thorne Widgery, added:

“This is a significant milestone for us. We have always believed that growth for our clients, our team and our business, requires investment, ambition and the right partners.

“DJH shares our values and our drive, and joining the group gives us the platform to go further and faster than we could independently. I am genuinely excited about what lies ahead.”

Matt Nicholson, Investment Lead at Tenzing, added:

“We’re delighted to see DJH continue its growth with the acquisition of Thorne Widgery. The business has built an outstanding reputation across Herefordshire and Shropshire, combining trusted local relationships with an innovative tech-led approach to serving clients. This partnership further strengthens DJH’s regional presence while adding specialist capabilities that will benefit clients across the wider group.”

This is the twelfth transaction DJH has completed with the support of private equity partner Tenzing since 2022.
