Tenzing achieves B Corp Certification with a score of >100 points

Today, Tenzing has announced its certification as a B Corporation (“B Corp”) with 101.4 points, significantly surpassing the certification threshold. This achievement demonstrates that Tenzing meets high standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability, and is committed to act in the interest of all its stakeholders.

Since Tenzing’s inception in 2016, the Firm has oriented its business plan around its four key stakeholder groups – management teams, advisors, investors and employees – and operated to a set of core values.

In the years since, as Tenzing’s stakeholder base has grown, the Firm has continued to innovate in line with its mission of making private equity more curious, kind and successful for all its stakeholders. Key initiatives that Tenzing has introduced to date include:

  • The ‘Altitude Academy’ – a proprietary training and development programme for employees, aimed at fostering an inclusive environment and high-performance culture.
  • Ambitious DE&I targets – for 50% of employees firm-wide and, specifically, in the investment team represented by females and minority groups. Tenzing is currently at 50% and 40%, respectively.
  • The ‘Piton Trust’ – Tenzing’s charitable trust, which has been seeded with £500k of capital.
  • An expanded suite of employee benefits – including, a market-leading maternity policy and a paid sabbatical programme.
  • A new portfolio diligence and monitoring tool – leveraging the BIA and aiming to increase engagement with management teams.

Tenzing’s employee-focused initiatives were recognised through the Firm’s inclusion in The Sunday Times ‘Best Places to Work 2024’.

B Corp is a global movement that started in 2006. There are currently >8,000 certified businesses worldwide and, within this, the UK community is one of the largest and fastest growing in the world.

The certification process is rigorous, involving a 200-question impact assessment (the “BIA”), which flexes to reflect a company’s industry, business model and size. In order to certify, a business must score at least 80 points in the BIA, which is independently verified, and legally embed the business’ commitment to purpose, as well as profit, in their company articles.

Guy Gillon, Co-Founder & CEO, Tenzing says:

“In B Corp, we found a globally recognised benchmark and transparent, comprehensive framework that resonates with our key stakeholders. Our mission is to build amazing businesses, and the B Corp framework and certification will only help us to accelerate that. We strive to remain innovative and ambitious in all that we do, and that includes the way we do business and the way we understand and improve our impact.”
