My Trees is a Zimbabwean organisation that is focussed on planting and protecting indigenous trees. It is one of the largest natural woodland natural restoration operations in Southern Africa but need to scale up if it is to have a meaningful impact on deforestation, ecosystem restoration and habitat preservation.
Zimbabwe is home to miles and miles of pristine rangelands for Africa’s iconic wild animals and hosts a wealth of biodiversity. Every year Zimbabwe loses millions of trees to poor forest management, continued
land clearing, and household use of firewood. One critical issue is the widespread misconception that woodlands have no ‘value’ and are simply a consumable resource for humans. My Trees offers an innovative solution to this problem, which not only supports local communities and the ecosystems they depend on, but also addresses global climate challenges.
